Privacy Policy.

Dewi is operated by Anchored Development Co. ("ADC", "we", "us", or "our"), a sole proprietorship based in Nova Scotia, Canada. You can reach us at:

Who this policy covers

Dewi has two kinds of users, and we collect very different information about each:

• Teachers create an account, sign in with Google, and use Dewi to catalogue their classroom library, run literacy activities, and (on the School plan) manage tech inventory.
• Students never create their own account. A teacher sets up a classroom code and usernames; students use that code and username to check out books or complete an activity. Students do not provide an email address, real name, or any other personal detail to use Dewi.

What information we collect

From teachers

• Account information: Your name and email address, via Google Sign-In.
• Classroom library data: Book catalogue entries (looked up by ISBN/barcode), circulation records (what's checked out, to which student username), and any classroom or genre organization you set up.
• Literacy activity usage: Which print-ready activities you've accessed, for the purpose of showing you what's included in your plan.
• Tech inventory data (Solo and School plans): device serial numbers, assigned student username, and locker/cart location, if you choose to use this feature.
• Payment information: Billing is handled by Freemius Inc. as our Merchant of Record. We do not store your credit card number or payment details.

From students — deliberately minimal

• Username and classroom code only. Both are chosen or assigned by the teacher, not the student. Usernames do not need to be — and should not be — a student's real name.
• Book activity tied to that username: what's checked out, reading activity completed, for the purpose of running the classroom library.
• We do not collect a student's real name, date of birth, email address, photo, location, or any other personally identifying information, at any point, for any reason.

Information we do NOT collect, from anyone

• We do not collect precise GPS location.
• We do not run third-party advertising or cross-site tracking pixels.
• We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to any third party.
• We never use student data — or any data — to train AI models.

How we use information

1. Provide and operate Dewi — cataloguing, circulation, literacy activities, and (where applicable) tech inventory.
2. Authenticate teacher accounts and keep them secure.
3. Look up book details (title, author, cover, genre) via Open Library, Google Books, and other library databases when a teacher scans a barcode.
4. Process subscription billing via Freemius.
5. Send transactional emails to teachers (account confirmations, receipts).
6. Improve and debug the service using aggregated, anonymised usage data.

Third-party services we use

Your data may be processed by these services in data centres outside Canada, including in the United States. Each provider is contractually required to handle data in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

Data retention

Teacher account data is retained for as long as the account is active. Student usernames and associated activity are retained for as long as the teacher's classroom remains set up in Dewi. If a teacher deletes their account, we delete or anonymise associated data — including any student usernames and activity tied to that classroom — within 30 days, except where required by law to retain billing records longer.

Your rights under PIPEDA

As a Canadian resident, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate personal information.
• Withdraw consent to the collection or use of your personal information (subject to legal or contractual restrictions).
• Request deletion of your account and associated data.

FERPA and student privacy

Dewi is designed so that teachers, not Dewi, control student information — consistent with how FERPA (in the U.S.) and provincial student privacy law (in Canada) expect educational technology to work:

• Teachers create classroom codes and usernames; no student ever creates their own account or provides information directly to us.
• We do not require, request, or store any information that would identify a specific student outside their own classroom (no real name, no email, no birthdate, no photo).
• A teacher can delete a student's username and all associated activity at any time from within Dewi.
• We do not disclose classroom or student activity data to any third party except the service providers listed above, solely as needed to operate Dewi.

Children's privacy

Dewi teacher accounts are for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 — and by design, we do not collect personal information from students of any age, since students access Dewi only via a teacher-assigned username and classroom code, never a personal account.

Cookies and local storage

Dewi uses browser local storage and session cookies solely for authentication purposes (to keep a teacher signed in). We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies.

Affiliate disclosure

Dewi is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. When our blog recommends a specific product, we disclose this directly next to that recommendation. Any commission we may earn does not affect the price you pay.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, notify account holders by email. Continued use of Dewi after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
